School of Engineering: Research Fellow in Green Radio: Sustainable Wireless Networks
The research fellow post will investigate novel techniques to make future wireless networks significantly more energy efficient than those deployed now.
This post is part of a joint academic-industry programme called "Green Radio", which studies how wireless networks can be made more energy efficient and sustainable. The specific objective of the Green Radio programme is to investigate and create innovative methods to achieve significant reductions in the total energy needed to operate a radio access network and to identify appropriate radio architectures which enable such energy reductions. You will focus on novel techniques to minimise energy consumption for both both base stations and wireless terminals and handsets. These approaches may be based on concepts from emerging wireless standards, such as the Long Term Evolution system or approaches derived from recent research on low power wireless sensor networks. You will collaborate with PhD students working on the project at the University of Edinburgh and with researchers at other collaborating universities.
You will have a PhD (or have submitted) or equivalent in engineering, computer science or related discipline, and have a strong background in wireless communications. This appointment will be for eighteen months starting on 1st April 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.
