VIETNAM YOUNG LEADER AWARDS
The Vietnam Young Leader Awards (VYLA) is a full scholarship program to support outstanding government employees in obtaining a Master in Public Affairs at a world-leading public policy school. This anual program is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Training, and Indiana University. In 2010, roughly 15 individuals will be granted these highly selective awards.
A. Eligibility
i) Meet general requirements for Vietnamese Government’s scholarships ([Only registered and activated users can see links. ])
ii) Be a current employee of the government (who receives a salary from the government budget)
iii) Have at least 12 months of working experience in the government administration or services
B. Award Requirements
i) Complete a 2-year Master in Public Affairs or Environmental Affairs at Indiana University
ii) Work for the Vietnamese Government for at least 5 years continuously upon completion of the award.
C. Selection Criteria
i) Ability to contribute to the Vietnamese society after the award period
ii) Professional achievements and academic ability, including English proficiency
D. Timeline
i) 15/04/2010: Application deadline (submit by email)
ii) 30/04/2010: Announcement of interviewees (by email and phone)
iii) 15/05/2010: Announcement of finalists; Start of the formal admission process
iv) 30/06/2010: Academic Preparation Program at Indiana University
v) 01/09/2010: Master of Public Administration Program
vi) 30/05/2012: Graduation and return to Vietnam
E. Application Checklist
i) Application form (see next page) and resume
ii) Personal statement in English to address the following questions:
(a) What are your main professional strengths?
(b) What are your professional goals and plan?
(c) How would VYLA benefit you?
iii) Notarized translation of diplomas and transcripts of previous education programs
iv) Other optional documents (in Vietnamese or English) that may strengthen the application. These documents should demonstrate the applicant’s academic and professional strengths. For examples:
(a) Letters of recommendation of supervisors or someone that know the applicant’s ability well
(b) Proofs of academic or professional achievements
(c) Proofs of English proficiency (To strengthen the application, applicants are encouraged to take the TOEFL or IELTS as soon as possible, and inform the selection committee anytime during the selection process)
F. Application Submission
(1) This application should be emailed to [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] by 15/04/2010. VYLA applicants do not need to apply online at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] as for other government scholarships
(2) This application should be in pdf form and less than 5MB. Supporting documents should be scanned and included in the application
(3) After the selection is completed, only selected candidates are required to submit:
(i) A hard-copy application with notarized documents
(ii) An official letter of approval from the current government employer
