Position Summary: Scripps Florida seeks a Computational Chemist with experience in Cheminformatics, Molecular Modeling and Scientific Programming to join our Informatics team within the Translational Research Institute. The selected candidate will actively contribute to our Drug Discovery programs within the TRI and to our NIH network Molecular Library Probe Production Center, a part of the single largest investment of the NIH's roadmap initiative to date and the largest award ever received by Scripps Research. In addition to applying state of the art computational chemistry methods to these exciting projects, this position will be closely involved in scientific software development efforts to build novel tools. Overall this is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic multi-disciplinary operation with the highest standards and the determination to have the greatest impact on science and medicine worldwide.

Physical Requirements: Details of established essential functions for this position will be addressed/discussed during the interview process.
Basic Qualifications: An advanced degree (Ph.D., M.Sc. or equivalent) is required. Excellent communication skills, including the ability to interact with medicinal chemists, informatics colleagues and external collaborators is required. Must have experience generating and evaluating a large variety of structural, pharmacophore, and physicochemical 2D and 3D descriptors including 3D pharmacophore alignment, ligand based QSAR, ligand-protein docking, homology modeling, molecular modeling and dynamics. Will have access to excellent hardware, software and infrastructure support from within the institute's IT organization.
Preferred Qualifications: Expertise with industry standard computational chemistry software (such as Tripos Sybyl, MOE and Schroedinger) is desired and scientific programming skills are strongly favored.

Florida and Palm Beach County residents are preferred.
Compensation: Salary is commensurate with experience.

Ph.D. student position in QTL mapping and characterization of Arabidopsis thaliana abiotic stress responses

We are looking for a Ph.D. student to study abiotic stress and cell death responses in Arabidopsis. The position can be filled at the earliest from 1st of September 2010 and will be filled at the latest 1st of January 2011.
Applications are evaluated until a suitable candidate is
found. Treatment of Arabidopsis thaliana ecotypes with the air pollutant ozone causes dramatic damage in sensitive individuals. QTL mapping of this trait is likely to uncover new regulators of cell death, defense signaling and stomatal regulation. The Ph.D. student will characterize genes and gene networks that function in ozone and other abiotic stress responses using QTL mapping and mutant analysis in Arabidopsis.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] There is access to several core facilities including next generation DNA sequencing (SOLiD 4, GS FLX), protein
analysis (MALDI-TOF, Q-TOF etc), electron- and confocal microscopy services, and metabolite profiling facilities. The Viikki campus forms the largest concentration of molecular plant biology in Finland, comparable to many of the corresponding research centers abroad. The research environment is highly international, about 30% of the research staff, post-doc and PhD-students are from outside Finland.

We are looking for a student with an M.Sc. in plant physiology, molecular biology, genetics or biochemistry.
Salary. The salary will be paid according to the University’s salary system, which is based on the qualifications and personal performance of the individual. A Ph.D. student start at level 2 and the salary (before taxes) is 2200 € / month. The research group. Our approach is to use natural variation combined with genetics and molecular biology to elucidate how abiotic stress signaling and regulation plant cell death occurs
at the cellular level.
