Australia: 5 Fellowships with 250.000AUD/year

The Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication will award up to 5 (five) MCN Technology Fellowships in 2011. These access grants will be awarded to investigators who are deemed to have strong potential for innovative contribution to fields of micro/nano technology R&D that are relevant to the MCN capabilities. The value of an MCN Technology Fellows award is estimated at $250,000, to be expended over a period of 1 (one) year.
Submission of a single pdf document is required by no later than 3pm Monday 6th June 2011. All submissions must include HOD / Dean approval and adhere to a strict 4-page limit as described in the guidelines and application form.

Ôi trời, nghe cái fellowship rất ngon, những 250k$/an nhưng mà đọc kỹ thì lại thấy chả ngon gì vì số 250k ấy trừ đi mất 200k cho máy móc và nghiên cứu rồi, chỉ còn 50k nữa thôi

Thực ra lương 50K AUD cho postdoc là chuẩn đấy. Nhưng fellowship có cái hay là bạn có thể làm cái mình thích (theo proposal) chứ ko phải như làm thuê cho project như của postdoc khác (Mình đã từng làm fellowship nên thấy rất tự do). Như vậy nếu làm ngon sau 2-3 năm có thể publish kha khá và apply lên tenure track post (senior fellow or asst. prof). Lương tenure track thì ngon hơn, cỡ 80-100K AUD ơ Úc, 40k+ GBP ở UK.

Theo mình biết postdoc ở Australia là tầm 70K AUD sao bây giờ lại 50K AUD thôi nhỉ?

đúng thật là 50K AUD có hơi ít nhưng bù lại bạn được tự do làm bất cứ cái gì mình thích với một hệ thống trang thiết bị gần như mới và đồng thời có thể set up một nhóm nghiên cứu của riêng mình. Như vậy sẽ tuyệt hơn rất nhiều so với việc đi làm theo ý tưởng và project của GS.
