Research Position: Columbia EFRC Postdoctoral Research Scientist
The Columbia University Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC), supported by the Department of Energy and Columbia University, is seeking outstanding candidates for EFRC Postdoctoral Research Scientists. The EFRC Postdoctoral Research Scientists work directly within the EFRC program, collaborating across research groups to help drive and support the basic goals and directions of the EFRC.
The Center is dedicated to the vision of developing enabling science and technology that can drive new generations of highly efficient thin film and hybrid solar cells (see [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] ).
Candidates should hold a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or related science. An additional one or two years of postdoctoral experience is especially desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a very strong scientific or engineering background as evidenced by research publications in peer‐reviewed journals and other awards and activities. In addition candidates should demonstrate a record of successful collaborative research, preferably across disciplinary lines. Candidates should be effective independent researchers, capable of developing a research program built around EFRC program themes and in collaboration with EFRC Principal Investigators. Candidates should have strong leadership qualities and possess excellent communication skills.
The EFRC Postdoctoral Research Scientists will work with the EFRC Directors to develop a research plan involving exploration of new horizons in the science and engineering of thin film organic and hybrid Solar Cells. This plan will involve collaboration with two or more Principal Investigators within the EFRC
program. For details, please see the web site [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] or contact James Yardley directly at [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] . The research program consists of research activities to investigate (1) fundamentals of charge transport in Nanoscale and molecular systems; (2) experimental and theoretical investigations of multiple exciton generation in Nanoscale systems; (3) synthesis and evaluation of new molecular clusters for solar energy applications; and (4) device structure, characterization, and integration for development of prototypical solar cell devices.
We anticipate an initial appointment for one year, renewable for a second year by mutual consent. Salary is competitive and is commensurate with experience. Interested candidates should send a letter, a copy of current CV, and the names (with email contact information) of three academic references to James Yardley at email address [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and Catherine Tissot at email address [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]. Preference will be given to applications received before March 1, 2012.
